If you don’t know what a fandom is, it’s defined by my good friend google as “the fans of a particular person, team, fictional series, etc. regarded collectively as a community or subculture.”
The fandoms that I’m associated with are from reading books and they are all fantastic book series.
1. The Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games has taken over my life in many, many aspects. I have posters and pictures plastered around my room and countless merch from Etsy and Wish. I’ve read the books 6 times now and I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched the movies. The story, for me, is so inspiring from a writer’s perspective but also as a teenager. The story follows Katniss Everdeen as she’s thrust into a fight to the death match called The Hunger Games. It’s an amazing story and the characters are developed so thoroughly that you feel a connection to each one. Katniss is also so relatable and not your average protagonist. The story progresses with a clear intention and there’s never a dull moment.
Ever since I read the Divergent series I fell in love with Four/Tobias and Tris/Beatrice. They’re both such strong, independent characters. Especially Tris, who, against all odds survives and thrives against her fears. I really enjoyed the movies as well as the books, although I didn’t much like the turn in the story line in Allegiant. But still, they’re very enjoyable books and very action packed.
3. The Mortal Instruments.
These books are packed from start to finish with a good hit to the feels. The Mortal Instruments world is so complex and intriguing that you can’t help but keep reading. Unfortunately the movie was a flop but it’s being revived with the tv show ‘Shadowhunters’ which should be good. Jace and Clary are my absolute favourite characters although Simon comes really close too. The story line has a clear path and the complexity and mystery to the books creates a real sense of realism. It’s not hard to imagine this world vividly.
4. The Fault In Our Stars.
Ugh. I read the book before the movie and the movie did not disappoint. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort’s performances were nothing less than spectacular. When I went and saw the movie, I was seated in a cinema with weeping girls and guys for 2 hours. It’s such an emotional journey to experience this story but such an inspirational and amazing one. I love the movie so much. I also really loved how realistic and down to earth Hazel is despite everything she’s been through. Such an amazing story by John Green who I admire so much.
5. The Maze Runner.
These books are so brilliantly mysterious. I couldn’t stop reading when I’d started them and I love the plotline. It doesn’t hold back from the gruesome reality of a post apocalyptic world and even presents it in a way that draws in the readers. If you liked the first movie then you’ll love what’s to come in The Scorch Trials. Also Dylan O’Brien is absolutely beautiful.
So that’s it folks, my top 5 fandoms. If you haven’t read/watched any of these then pick one and go for it because I promise you’ll enjoy them!
