University is just around the corner and I’m hoping to do a Cert Iv in Professional Writing and Editing! To do that, however, I had to send in a 500 word piece. Soooooo take a look!
My heart beat fastens with each step towards the stage door. Already I can feel the vibrations of the screaming crowd. From experience I know that it will be deafening the moment I step out onto the stage. My manager, George, is by my side.
“Okay Jace, there’s almost 20,000 people out there and they’re all here to see you. Don’t let ‘em down.” Somehow his ‘pep talk’ only manages to make me more nervous. This is the first show I’ve ever done at Madison Square Garden and for some unknown and ungodly reason, this show sold out in 37 minutes. 20,000 people just to see a nobody turned superstar from Florida.
One of the backstage guys hands me a red plastic cup, like the ones that usually contain alcohol in movies, filled with water. I take a sip and wish I’d had a sip of vodka instead to calm my nerves. All the water does is remind me how dry my mouth is. George and I are walking quickly towards the stage as I catch a glimpse of myself in a small mirror hanging on the pale yellow walls. My dark hair is swept across to the right with a flick and my face looks unfamiliar with the layers of makeup that seem to be essential for a 19 year old boy. Before I know it, George and I are standing in the small gathering area before the stage door.
“Alright,” George says, “don’t forget, we’re starting off with ‘History’ first, then moving onto ‘Rumours and Fights’ and then ‘Going Strong’ unlike last night’s show. The rest of the set is the same as the rest of the tour. Good luck kid.” He gives me a quick squeeze on the shoulders as if to comfort me. He walks over to the sound guys for a final check as people swarm around me for a final powder and hair fix. I swear it feels like there’s 23 people around me, fixing all of my imperfections. ‘Imperfections don’t make money,’ as George likes to say.
For the third time tonight a wave of nausea hits me and I find myself swaying slightly. The nerves aren’t usually this bad. Just as the makeup people are dashing away, more people converge to adjust my mic, fix the wires behind my ears and make sure the earpieces are secure. We don’t want another fiasco like London. The next thing I know, my guitar is being lifted over my head and the strap firmly placed across my chest. “One minute people!” I hear someone yell.
I jump up and down on the spot for a few seconds and tune out the rest of the crew as I find my own heart beat within all the noise. I walk onto the dark stage and into the spotlight as I’m deafened by the roar of the crowd. I look down at my hands as I strum the first chord of ‘History’ and the crowd goes wild.
Fingers crossed! I’ll keep ya’ll posted. Wish me luck! 🙂 x
December has been a month full of Christmas and New Year preparations, including a wild New Year’s Eve which included walking 4 blocks to McDonalds in socks. But this month I’ve loved a fair few things, so here they are!
1. Selena Gomez – ‘Revival’ album.
This album is incredible and it’s been the best album released in a long time for me. Even though I absolutely love Demi Lovato’s ‘Confident’ and 5 Seconds Of Summer’s ‘Sounds Good, Feels Good’ albums, I just feel like I connect so much more to the entire mood of Selena’s album. I feel like I’m now discovering who I am and learning how to navigate in this strange world. I didn’t really fall in love with it at first though, it took me a while to really feel it but now that I have, I am obsessed.
2. Adult Colouring Books.
They are the latest craze at the moment and for good reason. It’s so entertaining and oddly nostalgic to spend hours colouring in a picture. The book I have has tribal designs in it which look so cool with bright colours.
3. The Vampire Diaries.
I’ve binge watched the first 2 and a half seasons in about 2 weeks and I’ve loved it. Although it’s a little over the top and almost always predictable, it’s still a very entertaining show. I mean, who can look past Ian Somerhalder shirtless? No one.
4. Copper and Gold Sharpie.
Anyone who knows me would know that I love all things copper. But, recently I’ve been using a copper sharpie in my colouring book and it looks absolutely amazing. I love putting it with dark colours to brighten them up. The gold is also quite amazing.
5. McDonald’s All Day Breakfast.
Here in Australia, McDonalds has recently brought in all day breakfast which means I CAN EAT HOTCAKES AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY. Like eating it for dinner, which I did tonight (don’t tell my mum). It’s so handy to be able to eat it whenever which is good and bad. The bad part is that my best friends and I are frequently finding ourselves getting Mcdonalds rather than cooking…oh well.
Thanks for reading 🙂 x
As the saying goes, “New Year, new me.” So here’s a few things you can do to give this new year a great and exciting start.
1. Dye your hair.
Why not try a new look? Dying your hair a different colour/colours can give you a new and fresh look both for yourself and the people around you. Have some fun with it. Try black hair with turquoise ends or blonde with pastel pink through it. There’s no limit to how creative you can be with it!
2. Update Your Wardrobe.
If you’re like me and haven’t updated your clothes for a while, try finding a few key items at a good ‘value for money’ shop. I personally love Kmart and Target. Go there with a set budget and a good idea of some clothing pieces you want to get. Try to get some variety like a nice top, black jeans and a cardigan. Add some shoes or some jewellery and suddenly you have a new outfit.
3. Try A New Hobby.
I’m going to give embroidery a try. I bought some cottons, a piece of Aida cloth with a floral design printed onto it and some needles and I’m set to go. You could try taking up knitting, scrapbooking, painting, archery, swimming, or even go-kart driving. The sky is the limit! (Although if you want to try flying, be my guest). You don’t have to master the skill or even be good at it, but just give it a go and see what happens. You might find that you fall in love with it.
Thanks for reading today guys, I hope you have a great start to the New Year and try one or more of the things above 🙂 x
The New Year is finally upon us which means that it’s time to say goodbye to an old year and hello to a new one. Society has a long history of creating and rarely keeping promises that they make themselves on the eve of the new year.
However, that’s because a lot of the time they aren’t practical resolutions which brings me to my own. I am hoping that I can keep myself motivated enough to really stick to these resolutions, or atleast most of them. So here they are:
1. No more soft drink.
Considering I’ve just got braces a month ago, this is going to be pretty easy. I’m not supposed to drink soft drink anyway because of the amount of sugar in it which can cause staining around the braces. Plus, water is so much better for you. So here’s to no more soft drink!
2. Be a great friend.
I feel like recently I’ve become a lot closer with some of my friends which makes me want to be the best I can be for them. I am the kind of person who loves to love and this year I want to be the most caring and loving friend that I can possibly be.
3. Be Happy.
Obviously I’m not going to be able to be happy 24/7 but I can certainly make a conscious effort to be happier with all I’ve got because when I look at my life, I have it pretty damn good. This year is going to be filled with good times, laughter and happiness. Just the way it should be.
4. Just Say Yes.
In the wise words of Zoe Sugg, just say yes. This year I am going to try new things and let myself take risks. Screw sitting at home binge watching The Vampire Diaries and feeling boring. I want to be adventurous and say yes to new and exciting experiences.
5. Be Kind.
Last year I was surrounded by a lot of bitchiness of which, I will admit, I did contribute to. So, this year I’m not going to be sucked into a whirlwind of nastiness. Instead, I’m gunna kill ’em with kindness.
Thanks for reading today! I wish you all a safe and happy New Year and all the best for your own New Year Resolutions.
Here’s to 2016!
